About this painting:  Mellow days is a warm, soothing painting of the fading garden borders as Autumn takes hold. It brings a comforting, soothing ambience to a room. The painting is of a size which can create a lovely focal point to a room, yet fit in any space.

Painted at the end of Autumn 2021 the process of painting the drying Eryngium, grasses & seed heads took me to thinking about how the mellow colours of Autumn affect mood. The strange years of the Covid years had changed how I felt so much & in painting this undulating garden border accentuated these feelings.

The enforced solitude & confinement of lockdowns & limitations on movement had taken me deeper into myself & even though this Autumn we were much freerer to get out, I found myself very content with my own company.. I felt no urge at all be in crowds or socialise in groups, which was the thing apparently most missed. I had ceased to beed the stimulation of noise & busy conversation. For me, this was such a positive thing. To just be at peace & happy in my own space & company. it's strange how what appeared to be the negative experience of lockdown, brought with it such a precious experience.

It seem that all through life the negatives always bring with them much bigger positives. Having spent the years of my youth desperate for companionship, this quiet contentment is like a balm to the soul. I'm sure that at some point a balance will return to accept both extremes ino my life, but learning that I'm totally happy with myself is a lesson I've searched for for a long time.

so this fading swathe of autumnal garden radiates that peaceful acceptance. The knowledge that in fading there is beauty & happiness
