 The story behind the painting; Having painted ‘Everything’ a big flower painting of my favourite ‘La Belle Époque’ tulips, my thoughts keat centring around the whole concept of what our thoughts & being take as meaning from words like everything or nothing. For each of us the value of what we have in our lives & the way we react & feel about them is so different.

So having considered what everything means to me my mind turns toward nothing. Is nothing a negative or positive term? Do we consider nothing to be ‘a lack of’? Or is it that in nothing, there is everything. To some walking past a bed of flowers means nothing, they don’t notice the wealth of beauty around them, nor realise that our well being is intrinsically linked with Nature. Stopping to take time to notice the wonder around us, have nothing else on our minds can rest & revitalise both mind & body.

Starting from nothing means that the path in front of us is open to all possibilities. We can achieve anything we set our minds to.

A place of nothing clears our mind for clarity of thinking.

We react to everything in life from our patterns, experiences & what we say, do, feel is always motivated & clouded by them.

What if we came to each interaction with ‘nothing?’ No preconceived ideas. No judgement, no expectations of what we believe is going to happen because our chattering brain is using all we know to judge what will happen next. Our interactions & relationships can become wonderful when we let go of all that holds us back from the past.

Those with what we see as nothing are so often the happiest. Having little makes us appreciate the small things & find joy in simplicity.

The happiest memories in life. Coming from the easy spontaneous of simple pleasures, which to others may be nothing but to those who can see their true beauty they are everything.

It is so hard to make our minds go to a place of nothing, for that inner voice not to intrude with a myriad of thoughts & preconceptions, ruining the current moment & causing stress or overthinking. Clearing the mind is the most valuable thing we can do, to let the mind & body rest. These days we speak of mindfulness..of being deeply present to the moment & to absorb everything it has to offer from each moment. But to do that we first have to reach a place of nothingness.

Looking at the beautiful tulip, focussing truly into he graduations of tone, the furling petals. The gentle movement of air against its silk folds. Although we are filling the mind with everything before us we are also reaching a place where nothing can bother or distract us.

Nothing is not always the absence of anything, a lack, an emptiness

Nothing to long for.. Creates joy in everything we have

So ‘nothing’ has so many options & it’s purely up to us what we want to take from it
