About this painting: I was up very early one morning on a holiday in Crete, pondering & thinking. The almost silvery quality of the sunrise over the sea had a mystical quality which caught my imagination.The light was unusual and ethereal. I did a few watercolour sketches then & later worked up this oil on canvas in the studio. The painting is soft and gentle and adds a relaxing and peaceful tone to a room
