About this painting: As Summer becomes a pleasant memory & the air is misted with a chill of Autumn, the little lilac asters bloom in profusion. Among the fading greens & golden shades of the season, the delicate lilac tones stand out in contrast. Their sheer numbers bring a smile to the face as the jumble together

In this year of isolation & world wide change, companionship has become such a poignant issue for us all. It has brought to the for how much others mean to us & who it is that brings joy to our lives.

On first impression it may seem that this year of COVID, lockdowns & limitations has separated us from our companions, but looking at it in reality it has done the opposite.

In our realisation of how human companionship is so vital to our wellbeing, we have made more effort to strengthen & deepen the connections which matter to us. maybe we have let go of the shallower friendships & focussed on those who enhance our lives as we enhance theirs. We have made so much effort to have conversation & contact, via the internet, over the garden fence, at an arms length. The people who truly matter to us are still here, present in our lives like the cloud of lilac asters, bringing a contrast of love & friendship to the bleakness & lonliness.

Lets hold on to that, lets keep nurturing & feeding the relationships & friendships which matter. Feed them with love, with time, with kindness. With little gestures to show them they matter. And as the aster do each year, grow out & spread that love & caring to others, who today may be strangers but tomorrow may join us as companions

My little canvas of happy Autumn asters was painted very freely & spontaneously & made me cherish even more those connections. Its soft tines bring a relaxing yet happy feeling to their space, enhancin a room with joyful delicacy.
